How to Measure Your Garage Door Rollers
Garage door wheels vary in wheel diameter from 1 inch up to 3 inches wide. A 1-inch wheel diameter is commonly used on roll-up truck doors; a 2-inch wheel diameter is commonly used on residential roll up garage doors; a 3-inch door roller diameter is commonly used for heavier commercial doors.
Keep in mind that the term “2-inch wheel diameter” is for ease of use and indicates that the wheel fits a 2-inch track. For example, the true diameter of a “2-inch wheel” measures slightly smaller = 1-13/16”.
The roller stem connects the roller assembly to the brackets and hinges on the garage door. The standard residential garage roller stem length is 4 inches.
Because some doors are constructed with a double bracket / double hinge setup, there is also a need for longer 7 and 9-inch stems. These longer stems extend through 2 brackets or 2 hinges to support the weight of the door and help mitigate any horizontal movement on the door.
Double bracket / double hinge setups requiring longer stems are typically found on heavier doors or in high wind areas like Texas or Florida or earthquake-prone areas like California. The extra bracket / hinge and the extra length of the roller stem help to stabilize the door and help to prevent lateral movement of the door.
Why Seal Your Roller?
Garage door rollers are exposed to the dust, grime, moisture, rust, wind, pollen, spider webs - you name it - that inevitably find their way to your door rails.
A plastic cap on top of the roller bearing shields the bearing assembly from those troublesome elements. DURA-LIFT even takes the extra step to seal the backside of the bearing assembly with an additional seal leading into the stem.
Upgrade to a sealed bearing roller for long-lasting cycle performance.
